A competition-winning pavilion designed for Copenhagen's 2022 O/ Day Fest.
The trap was among three selected finalists to be built and exhibited over the course of the three day music festival hosted by Aben Brewery in Refshaloen. Awarded overall winner by judges Soren Pihlmann, Marie Nipper and Julius Vaernes Iversen, the trap will now continue its life at the Copenhagen Contemporary.
Where our seas once epitomised the ingenuity and resilience of mankind, they now bleed the consequences of our tradition of waste. We are caught in our own trap.
As part of O/ Day Fest's ambition for shared experience and universe creation, our proposal is a lightweight room designed to bring life to its parts and agency to those who venture through it.
Using recycled fishing-nets as our point of departure, the all-plastic structure combines bi-product from both water-supply and fishing industries in a result that showcases the material and its varied properties.
the trap’s wrapping provides a gentle screen from wind while its inner drape offers playful adjustment to the room height and aperture.
Seating around its base doubles as a foundation and sets the stage for more intimate social encounters.
The pavilion’s design is robust yet basic, making for an inclusive build-process and easy dissassembly. And while the trap is conceived as a part of the hdpe’s end-of-life re-cycle (pelletization and re-shaping) it is also fit for re-use.
